● Opening Remarks
First, SAITO will explain the program in Japanese.
Mayada:
Hello everyone. We will now begin our Ramadan prayer session. Today, I will take charge of the program.
First, let me take a moment to briefly explain what Ramadan is. Ramadan is a very important and sacred time for Muslims around the world.
During this month, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. This means they refrain from eating or drinking anything during daylight hours, not even water.
However, fasting is not required for those who are sick, elderly, pregnant, nursing, or for young children.
There are several reasons for this practice. The main purpose is to deepen one's faith and devotion to God.
It is also a time to reflect on the blessings we have, and to understand the feelings of those who are less fortunate. Gratitude and empathy are key themes during this month.
When the sun goes down, we have a meal called "Iftar" and eat together. At this time, family and friends gather and it becomes a warm and happy time.
At the end of Ramadan, there is a joyful celebration called Eid al-Fitr, where people wear new clothes, enjoy special meals, or exchange gifts. It's a time of happiness and connection.
So, Ramadan is not just about refraining from food or drink.
It is a time for purifying the heart, nurturing compassion, renewing gratitude toward God, and strengthening bonds with others.
Unfortunately, in today's world, Islam is often misunderstood.
Media coverage tends to highlight the actions of a small number of extremists, which leads to fear and suspicion.
As a result, the voices of the peaceful, faithful majority of Muslims are often overlooked.
Today, as we gather in prayer, we want to shine a light on those good Muslims—the "silent majority"—who quietly live lives of faith, kindness, and devotion.
Let us send out the light of life that connects us to the Universal God and pray that Muslims around the world may be empowered by divine love.
Together, we may all help build a world of greater harmony, understanding, and peace. Thank you.
