- Meiji Shrine park issue
Tokyo governor Koike and Mitsui Real-estate Company are implementing a plan to cut down over 3,000 trees in the Meiji Shrine park and to construct a large-scale shopping mall on the vacant land. Many people criticize this saying that it destroys the precious urban green and tramples down the goodwill and contribution of the citizens—the Meiji Shrine park was constructed in 1920 in central Tokyo through the contribution of trees and volunteer labor of youth groups from around the country.
- Sunken immigrant ship off Greece
On June 14, an immigrant ship from Libya sank off Greece presumably killing over 500 including many children.
- U.S.-China relations
U.S. Secretary of State Blinken’s visit to China to reduce the tension between U.S. and China n may be undermined by Biden’s remark “Xi Jing-ping is a dictator.” Biden keeps repeating verbal blunders presumably due to worsening dementia, inviting doubts about his ability as the President.
- Russia and Ukraine
At present, both Zelensky and Putin seem to be dubious about ceasefire in the near future.
