- Hiroshima G7 Summit
The G7 Summit will be held in Hiroshima from May 19 through 21 attended by leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, U.K., U.S.A, Japan, and EU. However, President Biden says he may be absent due to the U.S. debt ceiling issue. The G7 Summit is decreasing its influence amid the increasing influence of “global south” (India, Brazil, and other nations) in addition to that of China and Russia.
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
It became clear that repeated torrential rain has caused 401 deaths by May 8 in the eastern part of the country. This area keeps experiencing serious damages due to floods.
- Russia and Ukraine
President Putin gave a speech before the Victory Day parade on May 9 saying that Ukraine is a hostage of the west. President Zelensky also made public a video on May 8 and suggested to make May 8 their Victory Day, emphasizing that Ukraine would bid farewell with Russia.
